We are leaving on a 15 day cruise on Celebrity Equinox to Rome on April 16 from Ft Lauderdale. Can anyone give us a hint on trans-Atlantic weather & seas? Also, we will spend an additional 3 weeks in Italy and could use some ideas on the type of clothing we might need. Going to Sorrento, Florence, Venice, the Dolomites, and Milan. Thanks
We did a Celebrity cruise from Puerto Rico to Barcelona in 2009, in mid-April. Seas were like glass and temps were in 70's ... absolutely gorgeous. However, we heard that the ship that made that same crossing the week before encountered cool weather and 40 foot waves! So cross your fingers. We spent 10 days in France after the cruise, and did the entire trip with just carry-ons. We packed like we normally do for Europe, except I added black dress pants, plus a couple of dressy tops & some scarves, etc., for the formal dinners on the ship. My husband rented a tux from the ship so he didn't have to carry a suit or dress shoes ... the tux came with 2 shirts and shoes. We really enjoyed that cruise. It was our first (and still only). Very enjoyable. Hope you have a great time.
It was warm during the day when we went in 2007. At night it cooled off a bit requiring a light jacket or sweater. But that should be all you need in Italy except for the Dolomites. You can always layer if necessary.
I to am booked on that cruise. I use <http://dailylongrangeweather.com/> to check on future weather. No guarantees on the accuracy. Also the oceans are hit and miss. We took a transatlantic crossing in November 2007, Barcelona to San Juan and the water was smooth as glass.
No telling what the weather will be like in late Spring in any part of Europe. Better throw in some layers for cool weather.
