Trains vs. Planes

I am having a hard time coming up with an itinerary as well as decided on rather I should travel by rail by plane or a mix of both. Also, I don't know which order I should visit each country to so I am not back tracking all over Europe.

I would like to visit:
Paris
Amsterdam
Barcelona
Madrid
Rome
Florence
Poland (Auschwitz)
Switzerland (Zurich and Interlaken)

I have 30 days in europe and am traveling on a budget (think hostels, low cost meals...lots of picnics) Also, I am 28 so I don't qualify for a student/discount rail pass.

It would seem that Poland is rather out of the way and would require a major travel expense for just one spot. With good research and advance purchase, I could possibly see saving money by not using a railpass. Also, with Switzerland as a destination between Paris and Italy, I'm not sure that flying would make sense, either. I would first look into point-point tickets and promotional rates.

Nine places all over Europe in 30 days is a lot of moving around. You will only have 2 or most 3 full days in each place,; the rest is travel time (count on at least half a day for most transfers; some will take more). And each travel day costs money---more than you probably realize.

So for starters, I would suggest leaving either Spain or Italy out of this trip (probably Spain, as it is more out of the way). You are young---you will be back.

I will be there June 25th to July 25th. As for Poland my main reason for going there is to see Auschwitz. I am very big into Jewish history.

I know 30 days is a really tight schedule but I only plan on being in each country about 3 days. I plan on spending most of my time in Paris and Amsterdam

Courtney,

Unless yuo have a terminal illness, you will likely be going back to Europe. We never thought we would but now have made 13 trips and hoping to go again next year.

That being said, 30 days is great to see two (and possibly 3) countries. You will enjoy yourself, see lots of things and be less stressed. There will be plenty of opportunities to see the other ones in the future.
