Looking for web sites to book trains from Venice to Florence then from Florence to Romeand f8nally from Rome to Bari and back to Rome. Sites I’ve been on state not schedules/trains are available yet. Is this possible? TIA!
Have you been looking on the Trenitalia site and/or the Italo site? When is your trip? For Trenitalia, at least, the schedules change sometime in June, so if your trip is later, that might explain what you're (not) seeing. However, if you check the schedules for a few days from now, they should be quite similar. Plus, as well as setting the date, you need to set the earliest time you want to travel, and it will show all the rest.
unlike the airlines usually you can't book trains more than 90 days in advance;
Thanks for the info!
Click here for the TrenItalia web site. They also have a very easy to use app.
Great...thank you!
Any train questions across Europe are fully answered on www.seat61.com.
Another company to check for the high-speed trains between Venice and Florence and Florence and Rome is https://www.italotreno.it/en.
You haven’t told us when you're planning to travel, so it's hard to say “if it's possible” that schedules aren't yet available, but if you're, looking way in advance, that's the case.
As someone else suggested, the seat of The Man in Seat 61 is highly recommended for learning about train travel. Rick Steves also has lots of good tips on his site here.
Sorry....we will be needing train travel on June 23
6/23: Venice to Florence
6/26: Florence to Rome
6/30: Rome to Bari
7/4: Bari to Rome Airport, FCO
1) Train times are so far only published up to the begining of June. 23rd June is not yet available. Times are fixed in 6-month chunks, December-June and June-December.
2) Look on the Trenitalia site: https://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en
That is the company running the trains. Look up a date in March/April to see what the service is like, on your date it will be similar. Then when the times for the 2nd half of the year are released you can buy your tickets.
P.S. Remember to use the "real" Italian names of the stations when you search on Trenitalia, NOT English translations: Venezia S. Lucia, Firenze S. M. Novella, Roma Termini.
The Venice-Florence-Rome high speed rail is used also by italotreno.it/en, the private competitor that runs only bullet trains.
Both companies will upload the summer schedules of high speed trains a couple of months before June 10.
Check again on February 24 (119 days in advance), but I think it's too early.
Thanks for all the info.
Would those site also list trains to Bari?
I need Rome to Bari the Bari to FCO.
The Trenitalia site would list Bari. Trenitalia is the national operator and runs 90% of the trains, regional and High Speed.
Italtreno is a competitor that runs some High Speed routes, in competition to Trenitalia. All Italtreno routes are also served by Trenitalia.
https://www.thetrainline.com/ is a reseller that offers both companies' tickets for the same prices as Trenitalia and Italotreno.
Other resellers, especially those outside Europe, only offer some tickets and some trains, and may charge more.
There are also some local operators, for example the "Circumvesuviana" which runs from Naples to Pompei and Sorrento.
Trainline is a good app to use as it includes both Trenitalia and Italo. If you are looking for schedules and approximate prices, look out 90 days- end of April. Then book when you see June schedules in another month+.
And highly recommend reviewing seat 61.
You can put in random dates on the days of the week you plan to travel, and use dates for a couple of weeks from now. t
That will give you schedules , ball-park prices, what stations to change at, etc.
In my experience, train schedules don't change too much when the new ones are published.
This way, you can do a sort of a plan, at least.
Following Seat 61's advice, I have found Trainline to be an easy-to-use alternative to the nationally run rail companies in Italy and Spain.
