having difficulty determining if train pass will be cost effective...used Rick's chart, but everywhere I want to go isn't on it!...can't easily find point-to-point costs if I don't know the names of the stations! and impossible to leave Lisbon to get to Sevilla by train. Should I stick to buses? or combine them? If you've ever wandered about for a few weeks, I'd like your help! thanx!
Barbara, in Iberia generally, except for the AVE trains, buses are as good as rail, sometimes better. So do your research, and mix and match.
Lisbon to Seville is a real bear of a trip. One option might be to take the night train to Madrid and a morning AVE to Seville. (If Madrid or Toledo are on your itinerary, you could maybe rejigger things so you see Madrid between Lisbon and Seville).
Or, maybe, you could fly.
We went from Sevilla to Lisbon (with a stop in Salema, Portugal for a few nights) by bus. It looks like you would travel from Lisbon to Faro (approximately 4 hours) and then from Faro to Sevilla (approximately 2 hours.) This website might be helpful: http://www.nik-las.com/portugal/travel.htm#bus
