Trains: Lindau to Bacharach

Thanks to everyone who replied to my earlier posts. I have one more question, and have found the DB site a little confusing. What are my best possibilities for traveling from Lindau to Bacharach on July 15th? We do have one day remaining on a Germany Rail Pass that we could use for this. Ideally, we would like to arrive in Bacharach as early in the day as possible, and certainly by early afternoon. We do have lodging paid for in Lindau on the night of the 14th. I look forward to your suggestions.

The 7/15, 7:03 connection out of Lindau costs 89€ for two (if you buy NOW - advance-sale ticket price; 174€ is the regular price) takes 5+ hours, and requires 3 changes of train. Using this page, fill in your travel data, use a 6 am start time, and hit "search" Click on the right-facing arrow arrow at the far left of the 7:03 plan, and you will see the same information. http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

Lindau 9:06 IRE4232 Ulm 10:45 (3) 10:51 (1) ICE610 Mannheim 12:27 (3) 12:58 (2) IC2004 Bingen 14:03 (102) 14:15 (103) MRB25334
Bacharach 14:27 The numbers in parentheses are track numbers. 102 and 103 share a platform in Bingen, as do 3 and 2 in Mannheim. Ulm is a platform change. It shouldn't take that long to learn to use the DB site. The above schedule will work, but if you want more time to change trains, or want to leave later, you will need to use the site. If you do decide to travel at a different time, or take a different route, when you are in Lindau, there is a Reisezentrum (travel center) in the Lindau Hbf. They are open 7 days a week and can give you a new itinerary.

Great information - thanks, guys. Would that fare cover ALL of the trains - the regional ones, too? I'm trying to figure out if that is a better deal than buying a Schönes Wochenende pass for the regional trains, and the rail pass for the IC/ICE trains.

The special price covers all the trains in your itinerary. The ticket you get is train-specific; if you miss the train, you are out the cash. If a train arrives late and causes you to miss a connection, you will be allowed to use the next train. If you use the railpass day, it also covers all the trains.

Are you headed to FRA the next day? The regular fare from Bacharach is just 10.50€ each on the regional trains. So if it's the case that you have only one railpass day left from Lindau on, it would make sense to use it on the more expensive Lindau-Bacharach run rather than on the final run to the airport.
