Trains in Lithuania

I was previously able to look for train tickets on

https://ltglink.lt/en

But I didn't buy a ticket when I had the chance. Now I just get this pat error message "The requested URL was rejected. Please consult with your administrator ... Your support ID is [a line of numbers and giberish] ... Error 403 - Forbidden..." Is the problem coming from my computer, or from the train company? Are Russians screwing up the train website? I am not smart enough to know how this would technically be done but do you think Russians have damaged some kind of computer servers which control how the trains work and now I need to just buy a bus ticket? I vaguely remember the train was supposed to take 2 hours, 5 minutes, but the bus takes 3 hours, 55 minutes. How would I put up with the uncertainty of not knowing whether I will be able to get a ticket when I arrive?? I know the country doesn't get a lot of travelers from the United States, but plenty of travelers from other countries may be there and I don't want major uncertainty about my trip.

Maybe it is just a system outage, whether or not the Russians are to blame I know not. But Seat61 says tickets are easily bought at the station.

It may be that they are blocking IP addresses from the US.

I set my VPN for Lithuania and the website worked just fine.

does this mean you were part way into the enquiry and stopped? It may have left cookies which are now screwed up. Try clearing your history and cookies and starting again cleanly. 403 is is a fairly common error and old cookies are a main cause.

I just did a test using your link.

I am currently in Greece and was able to get as far as paying for a ticket Vilnius to Riga for next week. However, then I tried with my VPN set for the U.S. and got the same 403 message you did.

I don’t know why, but am just adding data points to your research.

Edit: turned my VPN off and was able to access the site again.

I don't have a very private network. Is it really worth spending the money on one when I have managed so long without one? My guess is that I can buy a train ticket when I arrive or I can try buying a bus ticket if the train is sole out. I won't know for sure until I actually arrive. I was going to go from Trakai to Kaunas.

The edited partial internet automatic summary is: Travelers in the U.S. have reported difficulty accessing official Lithuanian railway ticketing sites such as traukiniobilietas.lt, litrail.lt, and ltglink.lt, often seeing errors like CloudFlare timeout (522), Access denied (1020), or Web Page Blocked (403). These issues have been linked to recent cyberattacks and restricted access for non‑EU users, which may be in place to prevent abuse or mitigate security threats. Why [excuses] : Security measures: Lithuania’s national railway operator LTG Link and its parent AB Lietuvos Geležinkeliai have restricted access to some of their websites for users in non‑EU countries, including the U.S. Recent attacks: some users on other forums may have written that after external attacks, the sites were temporarily down and access was tightened. Geo‑blocking: Even with VPNs, some travelers still get blocked, suggesting the restriction is enforced at the server level.

Edit: there is also bookaway, a third party booking website, although in general I would much rather buy tickets on any train or bus directly from the train or bus company.
