Trains in Italy- Will luggage be an issue?

I'll be traveling in Europe for 3 weeks with my wife. We both plan on bring a medium size roller duffel bag. Will this be an issue traveling on the trains in Italy? The only other train we will be on will be the EuroRail from London to Paris and I'm not sure how baggage will work on that either? Hopefully there are plenty of compartments to store larger bags?

Thanks in advance for the help and insight.

Most trains that I've taken in Italy have had luggage areas at one or both ends of the cars (where you enter/exit) for bags too large to fit in the overhead. Never had a problem and we don't pack light, unfortunately. Depends on the particular train/car configuration.

OK, good to know. Thanks for the info guys. I'll definitely be able to lift the bags overhead, I just wasn't sure what the overhead capacity was. I'm trying to convince my wife to pack light (she is pushing to bring our largest rolling duffel... I'm hoping for a comprise by using the mid-size one). Anyways, thanks again for the info.

In Italy on almost all trains we were able to put our huge backpacks between back to back rows of seats. This is allowed us quick access to our bags but they were out of the way.

Just to be on the safe side, if you have to store your bag at the end of the carriage, which is a possibility, do what we did and buy yourself a bike lock to secure your bag.
