We arrive in Zurich at 11 on 9/26. We want to take train that day to Roma, then a few days later to Vernazza, then a few days later, to Florence, then a few days later to St Moritz to pick up the Glacier express. Any suggestions about rail pass vs. individual tickets? and anything else? Pam and Peter

Swiss Pass for Switzerland is a no-brainer, since you can get the 2-for-1 deal. For Italy, mini fares will be the cost of a pass. I'll bet you can find some of the 9 euro mini fares if you 0 get buy now. Even the 19 euro or 29 euro fares will be better than pass + mandatory reservation fee.
