Trains from Rome to Venice

We plan to travel by train from Rome to Venice this summer and we have found trips that are approx. 3 1/2 hours in length and some that are double that. However, we have not been able to figure out the difference between the trips, other than duration. Can anyone help? Do the longer trips stop in more places? Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

The shorter time is on EuroStar Italia Alta Velocita trains, Trenitalia's newest and fastest train. The 2nd class fare is 73.00 EUR and the 1st class fare is 99.00 EUR. The longer time is on IC trains which are slower and make more stops. The 2nd class fare is 42.50 EUR and the 1st class fare is 58.00 EUR.

If it fits your schedule and saving money is more important than saving time, take an IC train. Otherwise take an ES-AV train (more departure times to choose from as well as being a lot faster).
