I will be traveling from Lauterbrunnen to Amsterdam in early August and was wondering what is the best way to go about getting train tickets? I have looked on multiple websites, but wasn't sure if I should just buy tickets when I am over there.
I believe that you can buy the tickets from the Swiss train website. www.rail.ch. I can see the run on their website. It's a 10.5hr-13.0hr train ride with 4-7 train changes depending on the run you choose. The routing goes through Bern/Olten/Manheim/Frankfurt/Amsterdam. In Germany, you will be on their ICE high-speed trains.
You might look into the routing from Lauterbrunnen to Paris and then take the Thalys from Paris to Amsterdam. Won't save you much time though.
Instead of wasting an entire day on the train doing this, I recommend taking the direct night train from Basel. According to rail.ch you can take the 7:30pm train from Lauterbrunnen to Interlaken Ost, and then the direct 8pm train to Basel. The night train departs Basel at 9:55pm arrives Amsterdam at 9am.
