Trains - Chamonix to Montreux Sept. 29?

The My Way Alpine tour ends on Friday Sept. 29, 2023. I am staying in Montreux Switzerland for 3 nights, 9/29-10/02, and then flying home from Geneva. I will book a hotel at or by the Geneva airport for my flight on 10/03.

I used Rome to Rio to find the train route for Chamonix to Montreux but now I have questions:
1. What is the name of the train system? Will they be running on Sept. 29?
2. It looks like from Rome to Rio, there are 2 separate routes and train systems? Please clarify.
3. Do I need to buy tickets before I leave the US? Or, do I show up on the morning at the station to buy tickets?
If there is something I need to know but haven’t asked please let me know.
TIA!

Use www.sbb.ch/en to see the train schedules. I see a train itinerary every hour at 28 past the hour on Sept 29.
Chamonix Mont Blanc to Vallorcine to Martigny to Montreux, takes 2 hours and 19 minutes.
It is too early to buy tickets, and you do not need to buy them until you get to Chamonix. No reservations needed or available.

It is only 1 hour and 10 minutes from Montreux to Geneva airport by direct train, so if your flight is after 10 am, you could stay in Montreux the night before the flight.

You'll be taking the scenic narrow-gauge route through the mountains from Chamonix to Martigny. You need to change between trains at the border as the signalling and power systems on the French and Swiss parts of the line are different. Don't worry about the short connection time as Vallorcine station is very small and lots of people will probably be changing as well. The train from Martigny to Montreux will be faster.
