I am trying to take the train from Nice France to Barcelona spain in August. I have purchased a two country rail pass but can't seem to get seat reservations. Any suggestions? There is a fairly direct train but when I request seat reservations they say I must make them at a train station but I am worried about waiting until I get there to reserve seats.

Deb, I realize that you have a 2-country pass. But, do you realize that you can fly from Nice to Barcelona in 1hr15min for as low as 39.99E on www.vueling.com, the Spanish budget airline. Book as early as possible for the lowest fares. Next, the train from Nice Ville to Barcelona Sants. This is a lengthy train ride with 2-4 train changes depending the run you . The best journey time is almost 9.0hours. Some runs are much longer. Travelers posting on this site have shared similar difficulties in getting from France to Spain. They have had to go to the French train station to resolve the issue and get their tickets to Spain. There are trains. I can see almost a dozen runs from Nice Ville to Perpignan on the French www.voyages-sncf.com. Perpignan is near the France/Spanish border. If I put in Nice Ville to Barcelona Sants, I get one run. On the German www.bahn.de, Most runs I see arrive the next day. You will need to resolve this at the French train station. The simple solution is to put you pass away and fly to Barcelona. Net/net it will cost you a few more Euros but you will gain tons of time.
