Has anyone taken the train from Paris to Zurich? Should I buy in advance? How long is the trip? Have to catch a river cruise starting in Zurich, so I need to be there on time.

You will get much cheaper fares from Paris to Zurich if you book three months or so in advance at tgv-europe.com. (Claim to be in UK or Canada and pick up tickets in France.) However, these cheap fares are limited to specific trains and if you miss them you have to pay full fare, so if you are landing in Paris on the same day it may be too risky. Journey time on the fastes trains is 4-5 hours. If you are very lucky with your flight time, you may be able to get a direct TGV from Charles de Gaulle to Strasbourg and change there for Zurich, which will avoid the RER trip from CDG to Gare de Lyon in Paris. I would make another post with a more meaningful title asking about how to get from the station in Zurich to the cruise dock - I have no idea.
