Assume 5/11 is May 11 and you haven't gone Euro already (Nov 5). May is too far away to get accurate train info. Just looking at random dates in Oct. Roma to CT 22 euro pp, CT to Firenza 16 Euro pp, Firenza to Venezia 19 Euro pp, Venezia to Roma 9 Euro pp. So that is probably the best you can do. Don't forget, they can always raise prices by May, given all the "austerity budgeting" in the headlines, it is entirely likely. The smallest Sixt car you would want to get probably would be a CDMR (Opel Astra or Citroen C4) seats 5 people, 2 large suitcases, 1 small suitcase. I guess that's 4 medium, but someone might have one in their lap. Looks like cozy trip.
A car would be a pain parking, especilly in CT. You'll get a 150 Euro fine if you try to drive in central Florence. And Venice? Fugetabouddit.

www.trenitalia.com. You can't buy tickets until 90 days out. Try to register on the site. Check other threads for trenitalia as a lot of people have been having troubles with it lately. (The website that is. Trains run great!)

4 people plus 4 suitcases (all in a compact car)= "I can't fit it all in".
