I am wondering if I can take the train from Venice direct to the Milan airport?
No ! Need to transfer in Milan.
Anne, As the others have mentioned, it's not possible to take a direct train from Venice to MXP. I checked briefly and if travelling from Venezia S.L. to Malpensa Aeroporto, there will be 2 - 3 changes and the trip will take about 5 hours. The easiest solution would likely be a direct train from Venezia S.L. to Milano Centrale, with a travel time of 2H:35M. Whether you'll be able to use a direct train will depend on what time of day you're able to travel. Other trains on that route have one change at Bologna or Venezia Mestre, with slightly longer travel times. Once you arrive at Milano Centrale, you have a couple of options on getting to the airport: > Malpensa Express - TreNord Rail appears to offer a connection from Milano Centrale to Malpensa about every hour or so. Travel time ranges from 43M to 52M. > Malpensa Shuttle - you could also travel via Bus, as the time is about the same (although that can vary depending on traffic). The Buses load at the side of Milano Centrale. As I recall, you can buy a ticket from the Driver (check their website to confirm that). If you're travelling to MXP Terminal 2, the Bus is a better option. Happy travels!
With these direct trains from Milano Centrale to Malpensa every hour, there is no plausible reason for taking the bus shuttle at all. It is an old hint that is outdated since 2010 for passengers using the main terminal at Malpensa. The bus shuttle is obviously subject to the infamous traffic jams around the northern Milano's ring road interchange.
Anne, you can take a train from Venezia Santa Lucia to Milano Centrale with no changes, then take the train to Malpensa. If you check a map, it's an almost straight line from Venice to Milan - going to Bologna will take you further south for no reason.
Thank you all!
