Train v.s bus from Siena to Rome

First, let me thank you all so much for your help so far with our upcoming trip. Invaluable information. Now, for my question. We will be going from Siena to Rome. I read (someplace) that it is easier & just about as fast to take a bus as it is a train (due to the location of the train station in Siena v.s the location of the bus terminal?) But I've not been able to find times/costs for a bus. I've tried the Gruppo Baltour site to no avail. Any suggestions for this leg of the trip? Any advice is much appreciated and thanks in advance.

Thanks for the site Henry...but I can't get it to work. Entering data on the page you provided the link to says there is a technical problem...and entering data on the home page just takes me to to the Gruppo Baltour site, which won't give me anything. Must be operator error here :-) I did find, on the Sena site, the cost however (5 euro?) which is a deal. Now if I could just fine how long the trip takes!

Go to the Ricerca Orari (search for schedules) tab on the Sena website and enter your search there. That tab will show you schedules. Travel time for bus varies from 3 to 3.5 hours, and you'll also have about a 15 minute subway ride from Tiburtina into central Rome.

Thanks so much, yes I did find the schedules in further looking. Also, I think it's about 21 eruo for "regular fare" if I'm seeing that right. I guess the question now is...is it really easier via bus or via train? I've got a rail pass (yes, I now know that it wasn't the most economical way to go, and next trip to Europe I won't do it...but the EuroAide folks have been a big help in simplifying the reservation process). So, it looks like train (with rail pass) is the cheapest way, times look about the same. I figure it's a push for "easy".

21 Euro sounds high to me. I don't remember the cost, but I've taken the bus from Seina to Rome and its easy and much faster than the train. Lots of daily trips so I wouldn't worry too much about the exact schedule. You can buy your ticket at the bus station when you arrive in Siena. With a railpass it probably will be cheaper to take the train, but if time is critical to you, consider the bus. And if you have to take a taxi to the station instead of walking to the bus station, factor that into your budget too.

Since you have a railpass, you will do better on the train pricewise. The train from Siena to Chiusi will be a regionale. No reservations permitted. This is a free ride with your pass. At Chiusi, you will probably change to an IC train for the ride into Rome. You do need seat reservations here but it should not be more than 3E.
