Is it necessary to purchase train tickets prior to arriving in Paris?

Kathy for where ? lol Versailles( no need) , the Eurostar to London, etc.. The main factor, is if you have lots of money and don't mind paying 5 or more times what others are paying for same journey, yes you can almost always buy last minute tickets, exceptions might be if you are considering an overnight train and want a sleeping compartment .. not sure I don't do night trains. A little more information will likely get you better more specific answers.
