train trip Germany/France in Dec.

We are considering traveling by train from Strasbourg, France to Munich, Germany at the beginning of December. What is the trip like between these two cities? Is it scenic? From my calculations it looks like it takes about 4 hours. Is that accurate? Is there a better way to get between these two places if we don't want to drive?

There are a couple of direct trains a day. The fastest way is TGV to Stuttgart changing to an ICE for a journey time of 3 hours 40 minutes. Scenic? I'd say so, but not spectacular. Rural Germany, northern Black Forest.
