Train Travel when arriving by plane in Rome

If I'm flying into Rome (FCO) and want to take the train north towards Genoa (to Cinque Terre), do I HAVE to go into the city center of Rome and get on the train at Termini?

The express train to Termini will hook you up with regional travel North to the CT area. Go with the flow, young Grasshopper.

The "train" (Leonardo Express) from the station at Fiumicino is just a direct shuttle into the main station, Termini, in Rome. I believe there is another train, the FM1 Sabina-Fiumicino line, from the airport, but, as Frank just pointed out, it does not go to Termini. However, the schedule shows it stopping at Ostiense, where most trains from Termini to La Spezia also stop.

I think the Leonardo Express would be the most direct way to catch a train to the Cinque Terre.

As the others have mentioned, no, you would not have to. The FM1 Sabina train Lee mentioned stops at both Trastevere and Ostiense, from where you can catch trains North, and nearly every train going to La Spezia from Termini stops at Ostiense (but not Trastevere) You can also get off at Trastevere, catch a train north to Citivecchia, and catch a train to La Spezia from there, or luck out and catch one from Trastevere, probably changing in Pisa to La Spezia. Is it getting complicated yet? However, since the FM1 train stops about a half dozen times before Ostiense, it would be easier and quicker to take the express to Termini and catch the train from there.
