Train travel questions

Not being used to train travel at all, especially in Europe, I've got a couple of questions.

I've got a SwissPass since most of my trip is in Switzerland. As I understand it, I have to get that pass validated just once, before I take my first train. Is that correct, or does it have to be revalidated each time?

On my trip, I'll be going from Bern to Venice, with a change in Brig. I have already purchased tickets for the Brig to Venice leg, which includes seat reservations. I'm slightly confused about validating on Italian trains - since I have reservations, do I have to validate my ticket at a machine before I get on? Or is that just for regional trains in Italy? I think it's the latter, from an article on RoninRome's site, but would like to verify that.

Thanks!

You need to validate your pass once at a ticket window before you start using it. After that you simply hop on and off the inter-city trains. For your Brig to Venice journey you don't need to validate your ticket---they don't do that in Switzerland.

Kimberly,

You might find it helpful to download the free PDF Rail Guide from this website. Click the "Railpasses" link at the top and then look in the lower right corner. That will provide you with a lot of information on using the European train system.

Happy travels!

Is your pass a continuous pass for a period of time or is for a certain number of days within a longer period? If it's the former, once you validate it, you start the clock ticking and don't need to validate again. If it's the latter, you validate each day you use it.
