We are planning to visit Paris later this year and then make our way to Rome. We have about 3 weeks from the time we arrive in Paris to the time we leave Rome. To save any arguments about who is getting who lost whilst driving around we decided to train it. Does anyone have recommendations of a rail journey, places to stop and stay, accommodation, explore etc. I have Ricks travel guide as well as other guides. My first thoughts were to make our way south - Lyon / Nice, then across to Florence down to Rome. Any insight would be of great help - thanks :D
Frances, Your plan sounds good, but the difficult part will be to decide which places to stop on the way to Rome. Depending on your interests, you could certainly travel to Italy via the south of France, but you could also consider Switzerland. If you decide to stop in Nice, you could go from there to the Cinque Terre for a few days on your way to Florence as it's an easy trip and it would "break up" a longer rail journey. Some other possibilities on the way to Rome are Venice, Lucca, Florence, Siena and Orvieto. Once you've decided where you want to visit, it will be easier for the group here to provide more specific transportation suggestions. Happy travels!
Thanks for that. We are cruising from Rome to Venice and then heading up to Switzerland for a week before home again.
Cinque Terre is definitely an option. :D
