Train Travel Over Christmas In Great Britian

We are planning on spending Christmas Eve and Christmas Night in Moreton-In-Marsh. We wanted to leave the 26th, but I have read that trains do not travel on Christmas day or Boxing Day. Is this true? Another consideration is that Boxing Day will be observed on December 27th. Will this hinder train travel on the 27th as well? Thank you!

Since Christmas the 25th and Boxing Day the 26th are both on the weekend then both Monday and Tuesday are Bank Holidays. The National Rail will have train service information out at the end of October-early November. They do have reduced services on Bank Holidays. You didn't say where you are going from Moreton-in-Marsh, but it might be good to rent a car if you aren't going into London.

Only very few trains run over Christmas / Boxing Day both for tradition and so that big engineering projects can occur. Often the trains are disrupted to some extent for the entire week between Christmas and New Year. -=- As the previous poster said, the actual details are not published until the December to May timetable is published. -=- I would be really surprised if the Cotswold Line which connects Moreton-in-Marsh to Oxford at one end and Worcester at the other is operating. The reason is that the line is very much a secondary line which only has one track on it and trains pass at stations. There is a really big operation on to double the track on the length of the branch and this work is done in special "possessions" of the line. Christmas would be a perfect time for that. Check back in a month. The next timetable out is the "leaf fall" one when leaves on the track cause so much trouble a special timetable is issued, then the December-May one. What does your host say? They may have more local information....
