Train Travel Milan Centrale to Airport

Do you recommend booking in advance train tickets that will take us from Milan Centrale out to the airport?

No. And you probably cannot not since it is a private line. Makes no difference anyway as there are two an hour with lots of room. There is always the bus if need be.

If memory serves me correctly, this is a commuter train and there should be plenty of seats available on it. You shouldn't need to prebook.

With new direct rail service between Milano Centrale and Malpensa Airport, which is non-reservable, the more efficient way is just to buy a ticket before departure, validate and hop on.

Don, There's no need to pre-book train tickets from Milano Centrale to the airport. However if you're going to be in Milan a day or two before you'll be travelling and want some "peace of mind", buy them at the station at the ticket office or via the automated Kiosks. The train will probably be a Regionale, so DON'T forget to validate in the yellow machine prior to boarding the train!!! If you're leaving from Milano Centrale, you'll be travelling on FS (state railway) trains. Depending on which part of Milan you're staying, you could also travel via the Malpensa Express which travels from Milano Cadorna station. That's a very easy trip, about 35 or 40 minutes as I recall. There is also of course the Malpensa Shuttle (Bus) which departs from Milano Centrale and makes the trip to the airport in about 50 minutes (depending on traffic). That's usually the cheapest option, as tickets are only €7.50 (at least that was the case last year - hopefully they haven't increased?). Happy travels!

Don...we were just there in May and took the Malpensa Shuttle bus which is just outside on the right of the train station. It was 10 euro per person and we bought our tickets the morning we departed from the bus driver (there were 4 of us in our party) with no problems at all. Took about 45-50 minutes.

The Malpensa Express has added service between Milano Centrale and the airport. The train follows a different route and timetable than the one that goes between Cadorna and the airport. Trains run twice/hour and the fare is €10.00.
