Hello! It seems the Super Saver train fairs are the best priced train options between cities/towns. Any wisdom about that?
Yes, they are the lowest price single ticket. The are unchangeable and offer no refund it your travel plans change. They are specific to a train, a time, and a date.
If you are going to be in Germany for a week or more and will be traveing to cities that are relatively near one another, have you looked at the Deutchland ticket?
Correct, they are very cheap if you buy them in advance. The drawback is that there is no flexibility and you are committed to a certain departure. But if that isn't a problem they offer great value for your money.
One consideration, last year (Easter week) we prebooked trains for our long legs of travel - Frankfurt to Freiburg and Freiburg to Berlin. In the days before we traveled, both of our trains were canceled. It wasn’t a tragedy because one simply gets the next convenient train, but we were left without our seat reservations, which we didn’t know how to deal with or resolve. I’d not book anything in your destination that leaves you with a quick turnaround from anticipated arrival to start. My son had a similar experience when he was in Germany in May. As I said, this was in 2024. Perhaps they’ve resolved the service issues we experienced.
