train travel in France

We are taking Rick Steves 13 day tour Chartres to Nice. We are going ahead of time. We need to know how to go by train from CDG to Bayeux. And, then how to get by train from Bayeux to Chartres to begin the trip.

Use the journey planner on the official French railway website, http://en.voyages-sncf.com. There is a TGV station at CDG, so that gives you quite a lot of options for the CDG to Bayeux trip. You can see those by specifying the CHARLES DE GAULLE 2 TGV as your departure point on the journey planner. Alternatively, you could take the RER into Paris and then continue your journey from there, specifying just 'Paris' as your departure point. Read about the RER here: http://parisbytrain.com/charles-de-gaulle-airport-cdg-to-paris-by-train/ Bayeux to Chartes also has options. Using the regional TER trains you can either change at Caen and again at Le Mans, or use an Intercite train from Bayeux to Paris St. Lazare and then a TER from Paris Montparnasse to Chartres. That looks like going the long way round, but the journey times aren't wildly different.
