We are traveling from Le Havre to paris on November 7 and return on November 8. I understand that the ticket price at the station is twice of the advanced purchased tickets on the internet. Is this correct?
Thank you
Sounds roughly true.
Paul, don't know if its twice ,, but you can always get cheaper tickets purchased online well in advance. I bought return tickets to Rouen two years ago for 25 euros, at the station I had to go to a kiosk to exchange my email ticket for a real one, and the lady in front of me purchased a same day ticket for same route as me, and her price was 43 euros. When I went next the clerk looked at my ticket and said "bon prix"( good price) and we laughed. I used the SNCF site, but have also used idTGV for Paris to Nice first class tickets,, for 40 euros!!! People we chatted to on that route said they had purchased their tickets only a few weeks before and paid 200 euros!
Thanks a lot. That convinced me.
For your route the standard 2nd class fare is €32.80. The cheapest Prem's fare is €15.00. For certain departure times on your travel dates the allotted number of €15.00 tickets are gone and the cheapest fare is €20.00. Book your tickets at tgv-europe.com. To avoid being bumped to the US Rail Europe site which doesn't offer discount fares, choose Great Britain as your country of residence. Then choose to stay with tgv-europe rather than being re-directed to the UK Rail Europe site. Choose France as your ticket retrieval country. Print your own tickets. Before booking, notify your credit card provider than you will be making an international transaction. If you don't, a computer may block your card for "unusual activity" (suspected fraudulent use).
Check out www.seat61.com for all the details about rail travel in Europe. We once booked round trip tickets first class, Paris to Monte Carlo for around 40 Euros. We booked them at 90 days prior to travel when rail tickets first go on sale. We used the TGV-Europe site and DID NOT list the USA as our home country to avoid being switched over to the Rail Europe site. Book your tickets right away since you are under 60 days prior to travel and the cheaper tickets might be already gone.
