Two of us will be trying to get around the country by train in CZ between Christmas and New Years. Are reservations recommended? Required? For folk new to such travel, any opinions about whether we should attempt to travel first class? On http://jizdnirady.idnes.cz/connform.asp?tt=a&cl=E5&p=MF I can see time tables for CZ trains but can't seem to make a successful reservation. Suggestions?
I don't know what the website is that you list, but the official website for Czech Rail is www.cd.cz/static/eng/. Click on "online services" and it tells you how to make reservations.
I've never tried it, so good luck.
Beth: I see that you're from Phoenix, and am sure that you'll be dressing warmly for travel in the Czech Republic in late December. I was guessing that someone from Phoenix would have to buy warm clothing for this trip that you would never need in Phoenix?
I am a Czech native and go there every year. Between Christmas and New Year I certainly would not bother with reservations. First class is fifty percent more expensive. Second class is fine for me. On certain trains on main rail lines reservations are mandatory. Few times I reserved seats I did it at the station just the same day or day before. No problem.
