Train travel GB

So, we are planning to use the train to travel from Edinburgh to London. But we are going to stop in York for 2 days along the way. So, I'd decided the Point to Point type ticket would work best. I have to buy this through Britrail since we are from overseas. Then when we would get to London and I was going to buy the 5 day travelcard for us so that we could get the 2 for 1 discount on sights like Tower of London through the daysoutguide website.
I wrote to national rail yesterday and they say that with the Britrail type ticket, we won't qualify for the 2 for 1 discount. Just trying to get some savings happening. Any ideas. The train travel is giving me a headache.

I think there may be a slight confusion because of term used. There's nothing to say that because you are Canadian you must purchase all your tickets from either marketing agency. No reason that I am aware of that you can't buy your tickets from, say, East Coast who provide the service between Edinburgh and York. You will be arriving York by train, and leaving by train? Then you are eligible to use the Days Out promotion in York, too. There's a 2-4-1 for the National Railway Museum. When you go for entry you need to show both the arrival and departure tickets. The person you spoke to was correct that Britrail PASSES are not valid for the promotion, in London or in the rest of the country. There are not 5-day Travelcards. You can get 5x 1 day ones (which must be from a railway booking office not a London Underground one) or a 7-day one which is cheaper. The http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/faq FAQ webpage has all the answers about many possible questions. The first FAQ is about what sorts of tickets are valid.

Oh,Nigel, It wasn't that I thought because I was Canadian that I couldn't book any other rail line. I was just trying to get the best deal. Yes, I made the mistake of saying the 5 day Travelcard and there is only the 7 day...we only need it for 5 days though...that's how I got confused. I'm not so sure that Days out offers that great of deals when I look over their 2 for 1. The main one that it would be good for is the Tower of London. I didn't see much else we'd need.
I will have to price out everything. East Coast compared to Britrail, National Rail, etc. I was just hoping someone already had and save me a few min. :)

East Coast allows booking up to about 12 weeks in advance. If you book ASAP, you can get a discount fare as low as £15.00 for Edinburgh-York and £13.00 for York-London.
