We want to go from Torino Italy to Salzburg Austria by train. Is there a web site or place to get information on travel and departure times. We will be making the trip the first week of June. Should we consider purchasing the tickets before leaving the US?
THANKS for your help.
You can get schedule information, but not fares or booking, from the German Rail (Bahn) website. The only reason to consider purchasing the tickets before leaving is to take advantage of discounted tickets. You can get advance purchase discounted tickets from Verona to Salzburg (thanks, Tim, I forgot to mention that) as low as €39/p by purchasing online from the Austrian Rail website at www.oebb.at
While it's possible to get discount fares from Torino to Salzburg, you cannot book tickets for the entire route on the Austrian Rail site. I used the German Rail site to find timetables for all possible routes. The route with the fewest connections is Torino-Verona-Innsbruck-Salzburg, departing Torino at 07:17 and arriving at 17:07. To get the cheapest fares you'll have to do two bookings. Torino-Verona: The standard 2nd class fare is €40.50. Booked well in advance (up to 90 days) on the Trenitalia site, you can get a Mini fare of €19.00. Verona-Innsbruck-Salzburg: The standard 2nd class fare is €70.80. Booked well in advance (up to 90 days) on the Austrian Rail site, you can get a discount fare of €39.00.
Hi My wife and i did the trip from italy to salsburg last year . we used the oebb service. we left from venice. They have a luxury tour bus which takes you to the town of villach to the train station. From there you take the high speed train to salsburg. We rented a car and spent a week in the salsburg area then took the same route back to venice then to rome to fly home, a great trip enjoy Dave Hamilton ont
