We need to travel within Italy for 3 separate days (Rome to Florence/ Florence to Cinque Terre / Cinque Terre to Venice and then travel Venice to Vienna. Does anyone have any advice on which rail pass to purchase or best way to travel?
I suggest you go to Ricks website and see what the passes that cover your travel would cost, then see what point-to-point tix cost by consulting the German rail site for the international leg at http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml and the trenitalia site for travel within italy.
Just buy your tickets when you get there.
Doug is correct. For only three or four train trips a rail pass is not cost effective.
Thanks for the advice!
As the others have said, a railpass won't be cost effective for your routes.
If you can commit well in advance to a specific date and time for Venice-Vienna, you can get cheap SparSchiene fares for either daytime trains or the direct night train. Book by phoning the Austrian Rail Call Center. See the SparSchiene link on the Austrian Rail home page.
