We will be flying to Frankfurt and then taking the train to Lucerne. On the bahn.hafas.de website, there are so many Frankfurt train stations listed. Which is the correct one for the Frankfurt airport? Does anyone know which terminal American Airlines flies into? Where is the train terminal to Lucerne in relation to the airline terminal?
It's easier to use the Swiss Rail website:
www.sbb.ch/en
The train station at the airport is called "Frankfurt Flughafen", the main train station in the city center is "Frankfurt HBF". It's a 4 hour 20 minute journey, if you go via Basel you only have to make one change.
If you are going by express train, you would leave from the Express Train Station, the Fernbahnhof (use Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Fernbf on the Bahn website. (There are two stations at FRA.)
I just checked an AA flight status, and it said the flight is going to the "A" terminal. That's wrong because the terminals at FRA are numbered 1 and 2, but the concourses at Terminal 1 are A, B, and C while at Terminal 2 they are D and E. I assume they mean Terminal 1, Concourse A.
I would assume that any AA flight comes into Terminal 1. That's good for you because the train stations are more accessible from Terminal 1. You just come down the concourse into the great hall of Terminal 1. The hall has a 2nd story mezannine and on the left side, near the outside wall, there are escalators. Go up the escalator and across the bridge over the road, then follow the hall out to the Fernbahnhof. I'm sure there are signs.
