Train transportation from Fussen to Modena Italy

My husband and I will be going to the King's Castles and staying in Fussen. From there we will be going to Modena Italy. I have been searching on the Rail Europe site and others but can't find many passes and what I do find are very expensive. Would it be cheaper to just start going p2p from fussen all the way down through Italy until we end up in Modena?

Don't use Rail Europe for timetables. They only show trains for which they sell tickets so their timetables are incomplete. And their fares are inflated. You don't say if you will be taking any other trips by train, but for Fuessen-Modena alone it will be much cheaper to buy point-to-point tickets than to buy passes. If you book well in advance (up to 92 days allowed) on the German Rail site, you can get a Europa-Spezial Italien fare of €39.00 for Fuessen-Bologna. Leave Fuessen at 07:03 and arrive in Bologna at 16:26 (one connection in Munich). Leave Bologna at 16:46 and arrive in Modena at 17:05. That leg is on an IC train and the fare is €7.00. If you wait until 16:52, you can take a regionale train for only €3.30. Buy your Bologna-Modena tickets in Fuessen so you can concentrate on finding the right train in Bologna, not on buying tickets. See the German Rail site for detailed timetables for the entire route.

We are only 25 days away, so the price for both of us is 118 euros, which is not too bad. When I did research earlier, the p2p were going to be cheaper than a 4 country pass. Last question...would it be wise to do the 2.50 euro seat reservation??

Since the optional seat reservation is only €2.50, it's not a bad idea to buy it.

€2,50 is about half the price of a counter reservation. It's not much. I'd get it. Only one reservable train I've been on in the last 10 years was SRO (and then I didn't have a reservation). I had reservations on three trains since then and didn't need them (plenty of free seats), but I'd still go ahead. It's cheap insurance.
