I was wondering if there is a train from the airport to the central train station that goes from Genoa to La Spezia? If not, what is the easiest way to get to the station? How often do the trains run to La Spezia from Genoa. I cannot find a train table with times. Does this vary dependent on the time of year?
Thank you
Hi Diana. I can't help with airport trans, but for the trains, use site trenitalia.com. Use flag in upper right for English, use Genova spelling. Use a date within the next 7 days, same day of week you will be traveling; then it will show all trains and fares. Do not buy these train tix in advance, just buy when there. If you are actually going to one of the CT towns, you could use that instead of La Spezia for your destination. Enjoy your trip!
If it is beyond Dec 14, the new schedules will not be out for a while. Italian trains are always the last to post their December up dates. Just look at a day within a week from now, schedule should not change too much. There is a local bus to Genova Brignole station from the airport marked VLB, There is also a shuttle bus No 124 that rotates between the airport and Cornigliano station about a km away. From Cornigliano you and get a train to La Spezia with a change at Genova Brignole. Trains from either approximately every half hour.
Thank you. I will look into both of these.
On the Trenitalia website, be sure to click on "Tutti i treni" (all the trains, grey background), the default is set for fast trains only (freccie, red background).
There is no train station at Genoa Airport, so you have to take a bus or taxi to Genoa Brignole to start your train journey to La Spezia.
Genoa Cornigliano is 1 km away. Trains there will change at Brignole except for a few through trains. As I said there is the 124 shuttle to Cornigiliano, or the VLB to Brignole. I'd hop on the first one that came by.
Diana, To begin with, could you clarify one point..... Is your final destination La Spezia or are you actually going to the Cinque Terre? The Genova Airport is only about 7 kM out of the city, so it's very easy to get to the rail stations. You can use either the VolaBus (currently ~€6 PP) or Taxi to whichever station your train will be departing from. Trains will likely either depart from Genova Piazza Principe, Genova Brignole or Genova Nervi (I don't think the Bus stops at Nervi). With some further details, it would be easier to provide more specific information. Cheers!
