Train Transfer Times - Strasbourg to Munich

Hello, I'm planning a trip for the winter of 2012 and I'm looking a train travel from Strasbourg France to Munich. From the RailEurope.com I can only find 1 morning route that has a stop in Stuttgart HBF where a transfer is required from a TGV train to a DB Bahn train. It says the transfer time is only 8 MINUTES. Is it possible to make this transfer? Or I'm I missing something and they are the same train just changing names? If it is not possible to make this transfer can anyone suggest alternate routes between the two cities. Thanks, Jonathan

A transfer time of 8 minutes is quite common in Europe and, unless you have a walking disability, is quite doable. Your schedule is correct and there are 2 different trains. Below is a link to train station maps in Europe and you can just click on Stuttgart to see how far you have to go (track 6 to 16). Use the website "bahn.de" for more detailed information on routes. http://www.nshispeed.nl/en/stations/station-maps-floor-plan#station_maps_germany

DON'T USE RAILEUROPE to look for trains. They only show a limited number of the connections that are available. These are the trains for which they sell tickets and are usually more, sometimes much more, then what you would pay from the national rail companies. For this route, use the German Rail (Bahn) website. For major stations in Germany, go here. For Stuttgart, click on "Großstadtbahnhöfe Süden" (Big city stations South), then "Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof", then "Bahnhofsplan", then "PDF herunterladen". Stuttgart is a "dead end" station, where trains come in to the end of the track from on end and back out. Go to the end of the platform and walk along the connection platform to track 16. Trains are not like planes. You do not have to remain seated until the train stops. Before you stop in the station, get up, gather your belongings, and proceed to the end of the car, ready to get off when the train stops. Follow the herd. If you don't hesitate, you should have plenty of time. If you want a little more time in Stuttgart, you can schedule a later train. When first entering the connection information, click on stopover and enter "Stuttgart" with, say ":30". This will show you a connection with a later train to Munich and at least 30 min to change. Of course, you will get to Munich later. This way I see using the same TGV from Strassbourg, but having 54 min to catch an EC to Munich.
