Hi all, we want to get a train from Munich to Zurich. My first question is, can I just waltz into the train station in Munich and buy a return ticket? My second question is, would it be cheaper to hire a car? Our ultimate destination is Lauterbrunnen....Cheers :)
Oh yes, you can do that, this is how everybody does (maybe not everybody nowadays because of the internet), but still, this is the way you do it! If you are two persons, I think the train would be cheapest, but the car gives you the possibility to do some sightseeing on the way of course. There are three direct trains per day, reservations are not required. the trip is a little over four hours. If you know your dates in advance, you might save some money by reserving on the internet (www.bahn.de) in advance.
Thanks so much....BTW. How much would two return tickets cost?

You can save a good deal of money by booking well in advance (up to 90 days allowed) at www.bahn.de. The standard 2nd class fare ranges from 64 EUR to 84 EUR each way. Discount fares can be as low as 39 EUR each way. Traveling round trip will cost double traveling one way.
