Train to Varenna - Same Day as Giro Stage

Barbara and I will be traveling by train from Nice to Milano to Varenna on Saturday May 16. A stage of the Giro will be near Varenna in Bellano that same day - Morbegno to Bergamo.
Since we will not arrive in Milano until 14:00 I do not anticipate problems because of the bike event. Although we have reservations for Nice to Milano, we do not have reservations or tickets to get to Varenna. I was going to buy tickets in Millano Centrale to get to Varenna the same day. After Varenna we take a ferry to get to Bellagio where we will stay for two nights.

What race related problems could occur?

I suspect the chance of problems is minimal. The trains between Milano and Varrena are regional trains, so tickets cannot be reserved and won't sell out. Worst case is that the train will be crowded and you would have to stand. If the race course crosses tracks, my guess is that the stage will be timed to occur during the hour between trains. Those are my thoughts.
