What is the best option for booking a last minute train ticket from Zurich to Rome. We are flying stand-by, so we are not sure when we will be leaving.

Walk up to the ticket window,buy the ticket and get on the next train headed in the right direction. We did the reverse last year and had to change trains in Milan. You can check train schedules on bahn.de to see your options.

depending how long you will be in Zurich, it may be best to book your train out, on arrival. Sometimes there are discounts for multiple people, travelling together, making arrangements as little as a day or two ahead of departure (Italy has a discount fare for this)
