Train to Caen

Hi, I have booked, paid and printed 2 tickets for a train from Paris to Caen in june. I chose the Perm fare. Does anyone know if I can choose seat (since I was not allowed to choose when i was doing the online purchasing)
but if i now bought the tickets, it means there will be seats for us right?? Thanks for your help!

Prems tickets usually come with reserved seats if they are Corail services. It's possible that you may have booked on a less upmarket TER service which don't have reserved seats at all.

You will be traveling on a Corail Intercites train, not a TER train. (Prem's aren't offered on TER trains.) I just did a dummy booking and chose a Prem's fare. I discovered than when I clicked on "Choose my place," I got a "no places available" message. I did this for several departure dates and times. Conclusion: For this route you won't have a reserved seat. Don't worry. The chances of the train being sold out are slim to none.

I did the same thing and bought super cheap PREM tickets from Paris to Bayeux 1st class. Seat reservations are NOT offered and you just have to jump in a vacant seat. There were several open seats so our group of 4 were able to sit together. However, i WAS surprised at how many people were traveling on that particular route and also in 1st class. I expected a mostly empty train car...but it was more like 3/4 full.

No worries, Sylvia, there will be lots of seats and, as others have posted, that train run doesn't reserve seats. Choose your spot and hope/calculate you're facing forward when the train leaves Paris; or face backwards and see where you've been... It's a nice trip on the "slow" train and will drop you off just a few blocks from downtown Caen (out of the station it's a right turn, then right turn under the train bridge, over the river bridge and about 6 blocks to centre town). Want to rent a car? Lots of rental choices opposite the station/gare or an easy walk to the centre of town and your hotel. As I recall from last spring, about 3hrs+/- Paris to Caen. Have fun, Geoff.
