Train tix Varenna to Monterosso?

This is our first European adventure.....We will arrive in Milan from JFK, taking train to Varenna. For the next leg, Varenna to Monterosso, I hope to purchase super Econ for the Milano-Monterosso trip online when they become available. Should I purchase the regionale tix online as well? I know tickets are available near the train station in Varenna, but i think it would be easier to have already purchased them.

Second train question....silly, so stop rolling your eyes!!! 😼
do you pack a corkscrew to open your wine on the train??? We will purchase "picnic" food for the trip, and I would love to have a glass of wine!

Thanks for letting me overthink this! Haha.

Second question, indeed pack a corkscrew to open wine bottles.

But pack it in your checked luggage; otherwise security at the airport might confiscate it. We forgot ours last time and just purchased a cheap one in a shop.

First question, I see no reason why not to buy them in one shot. You'll be protected if the Varenna train gets delayed.

Kathy, I am assuming a corkscrew will be an easy purchase when we arrive....and if it makes it home, great souvenir! 😊

As you may be aware, you'll need to get from MXP to Milano Centrale, in order to connect with the train to Varenna. Are you clear on the details of the route you'll be following?

With the Super Economy tickets for the Milano Centrale to Monterosso, those are non-refundable and non-changeable once purchased, and are specific for that one train only as they include compulsory seat reservations. There are no price breaks for Regionale tickets, so I normally just purchase them using Kiosks when I'm in Italy. With locally purchased Regionale tickets, you MUST validate them prior to boarding the train on the day of travel, or you'll risk hefty fines which will be collected on the spot!

Ken,
I have already printed your reply to someone else's question concerning getting from MXP to Milano Centrale! Thank you so much for sharing....it makes me feel better to have that information.

Sam,
It makes sense to purchase the entire fare in one transaction....thank you.
