Train tickets--book online or in person?

We're going from Munich to Venice to Rome.

I'm afraid that the train tickets will be sold out--can that be the case?

Thanks

Venice to Rome should not be a big problem unless it's some very popular time, but ALL tickets for the night train from Munich to Venice often sell out a month or more in advance. You should get those tickets from German Rail as soon as you can commit. If you order early enough, you can get SparNight (Savings Night) fares for little more than the cost of a passholder reservation alone. If you want to go during the day, a reserved seat on a Europa-Spezial-Italien fare are as low as €33, 2nd cl.

Trains from Venice to Rome leave hourly or less during the daytime. However, some runs have 2-3 train changes and some runs have none. Unless you like train changes, it's best to book the direct Eurostars that run about every two hours. Interestingly, these direct Eurostars will also stop at Bologna and Florence. The direct runs take about 60 minutes less time.
