I can't get the National Rail or the National Express to use any of my credit cards via their website. All are rejected. I am trying to make reservations from Edinburgh to London, one way. I go through either website, find the right trip at the right price, but cannot buy the tickets. I have used these cards to reserve hotels, rental cars, Chunnel tickets, etc with no problem. It appears that they have some trouble with getting your address or name or something to match what the credit card company has. The only error you get back says that they cannot authorise your card right now and to try again later. Does anyone know how to order these tickets through either website?
I assume you want to book your train ticket in advance to get a discount fare.
Booking tickets on the various train company Web sites in the UK requires registering first. This can be problematic because you have to enter a UK postal code when registering, then change your address to the one associated with your credit card when actually booking and paying. This doesn't always work. The simplest solution is to call the train company and book over the phone.
I imagine you can do the same with National Express.
Thanks for the help. I tried calling them and all they could tell me was that I must not be entering my address correctly - not true - I've done this a million times. I tried other charge cards to no avail. So I tried using my Debit Card - and low and behold it worked. Pretty strange. Thanks again.
