Train Ticket buying at Airport in Germany

I was hoping to buy a train ticket at the airport in Frankfurt or Munich to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Are two days enough for Rothenburg? I want to go there before my Munich, Salzburg, and Vienna tour. I will be in Germany in Mid November 2018. Any advice would be great.

Yes two days is enough, but do you mean two days or two nights? Its a very small town - not a lot of time-consuming attractions. Yes, you can buy tickets at the rail station in Frankfurt Flughafen. They have English-speaking agents if you need that.

I would plan on two nights in Rothenburg. Assuming you arrive in Rothenburg late in the day, that would give you the entire next day in Rothenburg. Visit the town square, take a stroll down Herrenstr. to the park on the point where the castle once was. Walk part of the wall, visit the church, and see the Riemenschneider Altar. After dark take the Nightwatchman's tour. Then leave the next morning for wherever you are going next.

Stan and Lee,

thank you for your suggestions. My plan was to take the train straight from the airport to Rothenburg. Having my day of arrival to orient to the town and spend my second day visiting the town more in depth and leave the next day/morning for Munich. I have been to Munich before, so I thought I would try another place to see.

"Having my day of arrival to orient to the town..."

That won't take long. It's a small place:

Since you will need to change trains in the Romantic Road town of Würzburg on your way to Rothenburg anyway... why not stow your bags, stretch your legs, and see what interests you there. Rick has an article on Würzburg too. Then travel in the pm to Rothenburg for your 2-night stay.

Definitely do the Nightwatchman’s Tour, preferably your first night. If you are an early riser, take a walk around town. One of my favorite memories is walking the streets at 6 am. Just me and a few other photographers out. I’m not usually a morning person, but jet lag worked to my advantage that day!

You might check with your airline whether they sell the rail&fly ticket (many do even if they don't promote it). It's way cheaper than a walk up fare (Flexpreis) ticket.
