Train station info

I am travelling from Paris to Avignon by TGV. I then have to get to Arles. Does the train to Arles leave from the same station or do I have to change stations. If I do, what is the name of the station that will take me to Arles?

You have lots of choices. The fast TGV train connects at Avignon TGV. Or you can go from the TGV station into the central station (Avignon Centre) by a short bus ride and catch the regional train from there (a half hour longer, an awkward although safe change, and a less comfortable regional train to Arles.) Or, even faster than using Avingon at all, you can connect Paris-Nimes-Arles, a TGV-Intercites combo where both trains have reserved seating.
This is all laid out at www.tgv-europe.com. Choose Canada or any country, even Antarctica, rather than the US, as your base to avoid being bumped to RailEurope. Avignon, in my opinion, is worth stopping for a couple of days.

I am able to see all stops on the high-speed TGVs to Avignon TGV. None appear to go on to Arles. You will either be transferred to a regional train or a bus for the remainder of the journey to Arles. Since you are actually going to Arles and yo will most likely have one transporatation change, you might look into the TGV non-stop run from Paris to Marsaille-St. Charles. Departs Paris Lyon at 8:19. Arrives Marsaille-St. Charles at 11:27. (3hrs08min). Transfer to a regional train to Arles (42min).

If the TGV you will be taking did go on to Arles, your ticket would not be good from Avignon to Arles. Your ticket gives you a reserved seat from point A (Paris} to point B (Avignon) - and no further.

Thanks for your info, is the Avignon TGV station the same as Avignon central and if not what is the approx cab fare to that station which I believe is the one to Arles.

There are two train stations in Avignon. Avignon TGV and Gare d'Avignon Centre. The Gare d'Avignon Centre is in the city center. More regional trains run out of there. If you want the really high-speed trains to Provence with no train changes, they will either go to Avignon TGV, Marsaille-St. Charles or Nimes. At those stops, you will change to a train or bus to Arles. If you take the train to Avignon TGV, they will put you on a bus to Gare d'Avignon Centre to pick up the regional train to Arles. If you go to either Marsaille or Nimes, you can change to a reginal train at those stations to go to Arles.

Hi Andrew, The bus between Avignon TGV station and the Avignon central train station is easy. I think it was a ten minute trip. Typically, those buses are a couple of Euro.
