I have tried and tried to create an account with Bahn but no matter how many ways I enter my phone number I get a rejection. It's either asking for "country/area code and number" or "phone number". I couldn't find a "contact us" so I don't know how I am to reserve a seat without this account. Please help

Are you trying to make seat reservations for Italian trains on the German train website?

You can see the Italian train schedules on the bahn site, but you can't buy a ticket unless the DB train goes to the area. That might be your trouble. I do remember reading though that someone bought Italian tickets from DB on the phone. We just bought our tickets at the station in Rome at a machine. I printed out the schedule we wanted from the Trenitalia site, so buying the tickets was easy. They take American credit cards there, just no online.

It's very easy to buy reservations in Italy. Unless there are "time issues", you might find it much easier to just stop by a station when you arrive, and take care of them at that time.
