I'm trying to book a train trip from Venice to Bavaria, Germany on June 22. But it doesn't show up on both the Trenitalia and Bahn websites. The same trip does show as available for earlier in June (same day of the week). I know Trenitalia updated their schedules for after June 15 but are there still some schedule that haven't been updated? Or does this mean that the train route I want won't exist after June 15?
The only direct (no train change) connection I know of from Venice to "Bavaria" (Munich actually) is the CNL night train. I found it on June 22. There are also 4 EC day trains from Verona to Munich. You have to get to Verona from Venice on a local or express train of Trenitalia. I found all four of the EC on June 22 (also on the 29th). What I did not find is the entire connection from Venice to Munich using the EC and connecting trains to Verona.
I don't think the Trenitalia trains are in the international schedule yet. When I went to Venice to Verona, only two trains were shown for June 22, an EC to Switzerland and the CNL train to Munich. On the Trenitalia side, they show a complete listing of trains (ES* at least) between Venice and Verona.
As far as booking is concerned, you can book the EC on the Bahn now, and get a discounted Europa-Spezial fare as well. You will never be able to book that Italian leg from Venice to Verona on the Bahn, either separately or as a single booking with the EC, either with or without the Europa-Spezial fare.
Trenitalia doesn't have its act together. I just checked some routes that I've checked in the recent past. Now the departure times for dates prior to the timetable change have disappeared. I expect that once Trenitalia completes updating its timetables, everything will reappear.
I assume that you want to go Venice-Verona-Bavaria. If so, you can book Verona to the city of your choice in Bavaria now on the DB site. While DB can't show you the Venice-Verona leg beyond 12 June until Trenitalia completes its work, it can show Verona into Germany.
OK Thanks! So, I'll go ahead and the book the Verona-Bavaria train on Bahn now, the one leaving Verona at 9:05. And I guess I'll have to wait to get to Italy to purchase the Venice-Verona leg.
Do you think I'll have any problems with availability or full trains? Is the Venice-Verona train a busy route, esp. early in the morning? I'm fine with waiting to purchase our other Italy train tickets since there are several per day and we have some flexibility in our schedule. But with this one, we really need to get to Verona by 9:00.
The train you will need to take is IC 7904 departing Venezia Santa Lucia at 06:58 and arriving at Verona Porta Nuova at 08:03. I don't know how busy it usually is; but since it's the first train of the day that goes to Milan, I imagine that it's well used. However, if you buy your tickets as soon as you arrive in Venice, you should be fine. If the 2nd class seats are sold out--and I don't think they will be--the 1st class seats almost certainly won't be. Or if you'll be somewhere else in Italy before you go to Venice, buy your tickets there.
Important update! The new timetables now appear on the Trenitalia site. The last day for the 06:58 train is 12 June. As of 13 June you will need to take a train departing at 06:20.
