Train schedule for Ljubljana to Zagreb (round trip)

I am trying to figure out the train schedule for a day trip from Ljubljana to Zagreb and back to Ljubljana for a Sunday in October 2022. I need to make it back in time for the first group meeting at 4 pm that Sunday for my best of Adriatic tour. I have been looking for the website to check the train schedule and it's been bit of a struggle. Any recommendations on which website(s) to check train schedules?

Since there will be 3 of us trying to make this day trip, perhaps there are other better transport alternatives? Is goopti.com only for airport to airport or can you schedule pick-up at hotel and drop off at another hotel, or place in Zagreb? Anyone has any experience with mydaytrip.com ?

Any suggestions/recommendations are much appreciated!

It looks like there is a direct bus to Zagreb but it's 3 hours' each way. That is probably much faster than the train, as it used to(pre-Covid) stop at the border and changed engines to the Croatian RR.

You are far too early for train schedules in October I trained the schedule for this Sunday and its possible - its 2 hours each way. - you can get back by 5pm which is close enough for a meeting I'd have thought. https://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/

Frankly I don't really see the point of spending 4 hours travelling to have 4 hours in the city.

Have you thought about an alternative day trip that might be closer, such as going to the caves? I would hate for you to be all stressed out on the day your tour starts.

I really like Zagreb, but under the time-pressure of a 4 PM meeting, I wouldn't do this.

I don't think trains are terribly frequent, so checking bus schedules as well is a good idea. You might find it works best to travel one way by train and the other by bus. The two stations are very close in Ljubljana. In Zagreb they look side-by-side on the map, but the walk is actually fairly round-about. The Zagreb train station is closer than the bus station to the historic center, but there's public transportation available if you don't want to walk. I'm sorry I can't tell you what to do about tickets for buses and trams.
