Problem Resolved: Train Salzburg to Munich Confused ???

What am I missing? This is for Salzburg to Munich, June 6, RJX 260, 9am. On DB website and app, first class with city ticket is €33.90, I can't choice specific seat. On OBB, same ticket on same train is €74.20. Obviously I'm going to buy the DB ticket unless you know a reason I shouldn't. Thank for your insight.

PS the new €49 Deutchland subscription is not what I'm looking for because I'm not interested in a subscription. My other trains are booked. I don't want to get into this conversation now but I'll probably buy day city transport tickets as I need them. In Salzburg I'll buy the city card. May not be the cheapest, but I need the easiest.

Technically, this train is already within Germany from Salzburg Hbf, so ÖBB sells you a ticket for pure international traffic (vice versa it is from Passau to Vienna, from the Passau station you already travel intra-Austria in terms of tariff). DB, on the other hand, offers you its usual range of tickets. Non-refundable Super-Sparpreis tickets cost, as you have surely seen, only €17.90.

(Cross-check: On OEBB.at, book a test ticket from Hallwang, a village outside Salzburg on the line from Linz, dep. 8:18 with connection to your 9:00 train in Salzburg: the fare for a 2nd class Sparpreis ticket drops from €44.00 to €12.50 ;))

Thanks for your explanation and help sla019. I'll book my ticket soon, preferably first class for less people in the car.

You could check out Westbahn too. Same route, comfy trains (I find their 2nd class is better than on OeBB Railjets), cheap fares.

Since this is a German train the OBB can only sell you standard tickets according to the international tariff. DB can also sell you discounted domestic tickets. That is where you see the price difference from. Do not worry to much about not being able to select seats. Reservations are not mandatory, and when you do reserver, you are not glued to your seat. You can sit somewhere else if you see a nicer seat without reservation on it.
