leaving Lake Geneva 12-26-09 for French Riviera where plan to pick up rental car for tour of France...
question: suggestions, please, for best winter train routes from Geneva to French Riviera?
many thanks...
There may be a couple of through trains a day to Marseille but otherwise you will need to change at Lyon. Not too difficult a trip, though.
According to the timetables at www.bahn.de, there is a direct Geneva-Nice TGV that departs at 13:44 and arrives at 19:55. Your routes with one connection are Geneva-Lyon-Nice, Geneva-Avignon-Nice, and Geneva-Valence-Nice.
To see for yourself, go to the site and click on the flag drop-down menu for English. 26 December is too far out so enter an arbitrary date for any Saturday in the near future. Enter Geneve (rather than Geneva) as your departure point and Nice Ville as your arrival point. After you get summary timetables, click on the arrow to the left of each departure time to see the connecting points.
We couldn't find a good train route from Geneva to Nice, so we flew on Easy Jet. About a 1 hr flight.
