Train routes and schedules to be affected by planned construction

People planning their summer travel have noticed that travel on certain routes (for example, Brig and Milano is not straightforward. This SBB webpage has information on routes in Germany, Austria, France, and Italy that will be affected by construction this summer:

More information, including other countries (UK, Norway and more), is on this page:

Specific information for Switzerland by date, including strikes in neighboring countries (like the strike in Italy today):

Thanks, Lola. Looks like by mid-September the Italy/Switzerland situation will be back to normal. Works for me this year. ;-)

That is great, Laurel. When I originally learned of the track closure between Domodossola and Milan, there was no set end date in September. So I changed our plans to travel from Bettmeralp to Parma in late September so we will stop overnight in Locarno. It now appears that won’t be necessary, but I think I will keep the modification. I have been wanting to check out Locarno for a possible future trip to Valle Verzasca, although now I am wondering if it may be too late, and that area has become a victim of Instagram fame.

This is good information.

In 2015, I took a trip to Poland, Hungary and Austria with a multi-country Eurail pass good in all those countries. On the morning my train was to depart Krakow for Budapest, I found out that the Polish rail system was doing major construction on the line between Krakow and the Katowice junction, where I was supposed to switch trains. When I booked my pass months earlier, Eurail didn't bother to tell me about the construction. Because the train wasn't running, I had to take a bus, paying extra money for the ticket. The bus was late to Katowice, because the train to Budapest had already left. I spent an unscheduled day and night in Katowice. I didn't mind the unscheduled stop, per se, because I found the Katowice a fascinating town and have learned to expect the unexpected on an international trip, but the unscheduled stop was still a bother anyway.

Our travel plans last September were affected by a planned closure due to construction on weekends, which made us actually change our route. I was glad I knew about it ahead of time. So I have been watching for similar closures this summer, and wanted to let others know to keep an eye out.

thanks Lola! It looks like a few of our planned journeys may be affected. Does anyone know if the DB timetable / journey planner reflects the closures?
