Planning my trip to Normandy- want to take the 7:00 am train from Paris to Caen on a Monday and spend 2-3 hours touring the museum there- than take a train to Bayeux. Plan to o/night in Bayeux at the Hotel Churchill. How do I ticket this? Is it the "same" train that services these two areas? I think the train from Paris to Caen may be a faster train.
I trying to price the trip by train and compare it to picking up a rental car in Caen and driving to Bayeux. Thanks, Mary
I can provide some information for you. The train from Paris (Gare St Lazarre, I believe) to Caen takes just a bit over 2 hours. The rental car agencies are just across the street from the train station in Caen. Just head out the front of the station and across the street a bit toward your right as you walk out. Driving to Bayeau and around Normandy is super easy. You would enjoy a GPS though. very helpful. Go to the German Rail site to get train schedules. It is the easiest site to maneuver. Bahn.de/en. If you are traveling more than 90 days out from when you are inquiring, put in a date that is the same day of the week you will travel. The schedule will be close if not the same.
You can go directly to the French rail system since DB won't sell you the tickets. www.tgv-europe.com Specify a country other than the US to avoid being bumped to RailEurope. I think you will require separate tickets but others may know better. For more help, see www.parisbytrain.com and www.seat61.com
